Cycling Infrastructure and Politics?

Should we have an area for discussion about Oxford's cycleways, bike parking facilities, and ways of getting those improved?

Does OCW write submissions to council on this kind of thing?

    Danny.

    Thanks for the post Danny.
I think in lots of things of this nature we defer to Cyclox, and their good work in this area.

That said the fact that Oxford Cycle Workshop Training is a community owned co-operative I'm very keen to explore alternative solutions to the classic Oxford city problems, and we should definitely have threads on here discussing Cycleways, bike parking and city improvements.

One of our members recently suggested an adopt a bike rack scheme, where someone who uses the same bike rack every week could relay information about discarded bikes, and rack maintenance requirements to the appropriate folks. I liked the idea of empowering people to take responsibility and a duty of care of a facility they used regularly.

Any thoughts or other ideas people are dreaming up????

Thanks for the pointer to Cyclox - http://www.cyclox.org/  I've stuck myself on their mailing list and will get involved there.

One idea I had was for some kind of (Google maps-backed?) interactive map where people could mark potholes that need fixing, areas they think are particularly dangerous for cyclists, and so forth.

I am aware of a couple of online pothole-reporting options: Oxford City Council http://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/links/public/potholes; and Fix My Street http://www.fixmystreet.com/reports/Oxford

Never actually used them myself, but they both still seem to be active. The latter has a map option too, albeit a bit more dated than Google maps
